Natural antioxidants are present in vegetables and fruits and are
classified into three classes: carotenoids, flavonoids, and lycopene.
Glutathione, the most important and powerful of all antioxidants, is a mixture
of two amino acids; it fights against aging by means of the bloodstream and the
intestine. Lycopene is yet another important natural antioxidant that also acts
against aging by means of the intestine. Another powerful natural antioxidant
is vitamin C, together with Vitamin E, each of them being equally important as
they each have their own beneficial properties.
The growing demand for natural antioxidants from various
industries such as food and beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and animal
feed is predominantly driving market growth. Increasing demand for natural food
ingredients due to the growing adoption of a healthy lifestyle is again
contributing to the market growth of natural antioxidants. Also, the expansion
of the healthcare industry coupled with the growing use of natural
antioxidants in pharmaceutical supplements is contributing to market
growth. Growing consumption of meat products is propelling demand for animal
feed. According to the North American Meat Institute, the U.S. meat production
totaled 52 billion pounds in 2017 and U.S. poultry production totaled 48
billion pounds in 2017. 9 billion chickens and 32.2 million cattle and calves
were produced.
North America is expected to gain significant growth over the
forecast period and this is attributed to the expansion of the food &beverage
industry due to increased spending in the industry. According to the USDA’s
Economic Research Service, in 2018 Americans spent an average of 9.7% of their
total disposable income on food at home and food away from home. USDA indicates
that $1.7 trillion was spent on total food expenditures in the U.S. in 2018, up
to $78.2 billion from the previous year.
